Troubleshooting
This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter when using OCRR.
OCR Recognition Problems
Poor Text Recognition Accuracy
Problem
OCR fails to accurately recognize text in your document.
Solutions
- Enable "Enhanced OCR" mode in OCR Settings for more thorough processing.
- Disable "Fast Recognition Mode" for better accuracy.
- Check that you've selected the correct language(s) for your document.
- For specialized terminology, create a domain and add these terms to the word list.
- Adjust the document scan if possible (higher resolution, better contrast).
- For very small text, set the Minimum Text Height to 0% in OCR Settings.
Missing Text or Incomplete Recognition
Problem
OCR misses blocks of text in your document.
Solutions
- Enable "Enhanced OCR" mode to catch more text blocks.
- Use "Drawing Mode" to manually add text areas that were missed.
- Ensure the document has good contrast between text and background.
- Set Minimum Text Height to 0% to capture text of all sizes.
- Check if text is in a supported language.
Incorrect Text Layout
Problem
Text blocks are recognized but in the wrong order or with incorrect line breaks.
Solutions
- Use "Show Boxes" in Overlay Settings to see how text is being detected.
- Edit text blocks manually to correct layout issues.
- Disable Fast Recognition Mode for more accurate layout detection.
File Operations Issues
Cannot Open File
Problem
OCRR fails to open a PDF or image file.
Solutions
- Verify the file is not corrupted by opening it in another application.
- Check if the file is password-protected or encrypted.
- Confirm the file is in a supported format (PDF, PNG, JPEG, TIFF).
- Try creating a copy of the file and opening the copy.
- Restart OCRR and try opening the file again.
Cannot Save Processed PDF
Problem
Error occurs when trying to save a processed PDF file.
Solutions
- Ensure you have write permissions for the selected save location.
- Try saving to a different location, such as your Documents folder.
- Check if there's enough disk space available.
- Make sure the filename doesn't contain special characters.
- If processing many pages, try saving with fewer pages at a time.
Batch Processing Errors
Problem
Batch processing fails or stops with errors.
Solutions
- Check the status message for specific error information.
- Verify all files in the batch are supported formats and not corrupted.
- Ensure you have access permissions for the output directory.
- Process problematic files individually to identify specific issues.
- Try processing with smaller batches if memory issues are occurring.
Performance Issues
Slow OCR Processing
Problem
OCR processing takes an unusually long time.
Solutions
- Enable "Fast Recognition Mode" in OCR Settings for quicker processing (at the cost of some accuracy).
- Disable "Enhanced OCR" mode if it's not needed for your documents.
- Process smaller documents or fewer pages at a time.
- Close other demanding applications to free up system resources.
- Restart OCRR if you've been processing many documents in a session.
Application Becomes Unresponsive
Problem
OCRR becomes slow or unresponsive during operation.
Solutions
- Wait for current processing to complete if possible.
- For large documents, try processing fewer pages at a time.
- Close other applications to free up system memory.
- Restart OCRR after processing many documents.
- Check Activity Monitor to see if your system is running low on memory.
Subscription and Licensing Issues
Subscription Not Recognized
Problem
You've subscribed to OCRR but it still shows as trial or prompts you to subscribe.
Solutions
- Click "Restore Subscription" in the subscription overlay.
- Ensure you're signed in with the same Apple ID used for the subscription.
- Check your internet connection, as subscription verification requires online access.
- Restart OCRR and check again.
- Restart your computer and try again.
- Verify your subscription is active in the App Store → Account → Subscriptions.
- Contact customer support if the issue persists.
Trial Period Issues
Problem
Problems with the trial period or trial banner display.
Solutions
- Restart OCRR to refresh the trial status.
- Check the date and time settings on your Mac are correct.
- Ensure you have an active internet connection for trial verification.
Cancelling a Subscription
Problem
You want to cancel your subscription or free trial before being billed.
Solutions
- Open the App Store and click on your account.
- Select "Account Settings" and sign in if prompted.
- Scroll to "Subscriptions" and click "Manage".
- Find OCRR in your list of subscriptions and click "Edit".
- Select "Cancel Subscription" and confirm.
- Important: To avoid being charged, you must cancel before the 7-day trial period ends.
- You will continue to have access until the end of your current billing period or trial.
File Access and Permissions
Cannot Access Previously Processed Files
Problem
OCRR cannot access files or locations you've used before.
Solutions
- When prompted, grant OCRR permission to access the required files or folders.
- Check System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Files and Folders to ensure OCRR has necessary permissions.
- Try moving files to a more accessible location, like your Documents folder.
- For files on external drives, ensure the drive is connected and mounted.
